This project will conduct fuels reduction treatments on NEPA-ready acres within the 58,000-acre Eastern Sierra Climate and Communities Resilience Project boundaries around the town of Mammoth Lakes. Areas to be treated include Reds Meadow, the Lakes Basin, and Three Creeks drainage north of Mammoth.

This project is funded by CAL FIRE.

NEPA Planning Project Management

The Whitebark Institute has been retained by the Eastern Sierra Council of Governments to conduct project management for the NEPA planning process for the Eastern Sierra Climate and Communities Resilience Project around Mammoth Lakes.

Community Wildfire Protection Plan

This project will develop community wildfire protection plans (CWPPs) for the communities of Independence (including Oak Creek, Fort Independence, and Seven Pines) and 40 Acres in Inyo County.

This project is funded by CAL FIRE.

40 Acres Fuels Reduction

This project will create a fuel break around the community of 40 Acres in Inyo County.

This project is funded by CAL FIRE.

Working From the Home Outward
Mammoth Lakes

The Whitebark Institute has been conducting defensible space and home hardening education for homeowners in Mammoth Lakes since summer of 2022.

This project is funded by Southern California Edison.
